True Single Slot HD4850
Most single slot HD4850 are actually dual slots because with the non stock fans they occupy the slot next to them. This card uses the original stock cooler which is not as efficient for cooling but does allow it to fit in one slot. The packaging was a bit iffy and the protective plastic covering didn’t actually fit the card but was burned in one place to allow it to fit. I am deducting one star due to the improper packaging. The card installed easily and windows Vista downloaded drivers for it automatically. I recommend getting the latest drivers from the ATI website nonetheless. The card is a bit noisy. Not loud, but sounds like air leaking from a balloon. Definitely louder than the NVIDIA 9500GS it replaced. It idles at 50C in my cramped case and runs red alert 3 at the highest settings with 2X anti aliasing in 1680×1050 at 55C. I haven’t tried it in anything else yet, but that seems good enough. Best bang for the buck definitely, especially at $124.32 AR.
**** The card ran at 73C, with the fan running at 70% after playing warhammer40k:Dawn of War 2 for 6 hours at max visual settings. The game ran smoothly with no slowdowns in the frame rate ***

This Card is AWSOME!!!
I am upgrading from a 7800GTX and I must say that this card rocks!! I have a E8400 Core 2 duo to go along with this and everything is just silky smooth. You need to get this card… No “ifs” “buts” or “maybe”
Far Cry 2: 80+ FPS (DX9)
Fallout 3: 70+ FPS (Max everything..even AA!)
Crysis Warhead: 50+ FPS (Gamer Setting)
Half life 2 Deathmatch: too fast!!!
The point is that whatever game you are running this will just blow it out of the water… and combined with a dual core processor… it becomes a beast… why waste money on a 4870??!!….well unless you have a 22″ monitor and can go to extreme resolutions… but for 20″ downwards this is way more than sufficient (I have 19″ CRT)

good card
I bought a studio xps from dell. It has a intel i7 cpu and only has a 350 watt power supply and of course dell’s version of this card.
In left 4 dead, I play on max settings and vertical sync and get a constant 60 frames a second at 1920×1080 w/ 2xMSAA anti-aliasing, 4xMSAA makes it drop to around ~30 frames a second. If I turn the resolution down a notch I can play at 4xMSAA and get 40+ frames most of the time.
In Crysis warhead, I play at 1920×1080 with vertical sync and no anti-aliasing. Post processing, textures, and shadows are all set to gamer quality, and shaders are set to enthusiast(the highest setting) and I get about 30 frames a second with dips into the high 20’s. If i turn down a few settings, I can play at 2xMSAA anti-aliasing with roughly the same as before at 30fps. I can also turn the resolution down to 720p and turn up the anti-aliasing to 4xMSAA and get the same FPS, ~30fps. I will note that turning down a few settings a notch, shadows in particular, will give you a modest fps boost and that extra fps will come in handy if you want higher anti-aliasing.
I then proceeded to test Crysis again at 1280×720 with 2xMSAA and my fps held at 38-50 fps in parts that weren’t graphic intense, and it had drops into the lower 30’s in the intense action parts. If you turn off anti-aliasing completely, the will stay around the same fps @ 1280×720. So 2x anti-alasing only drops the framerate by a small amount.
I will say that Crysis is one of the more graphic intense games, so the fact that this card is holding at or above ~30fps at 720p with anti-aliasing for most parts is pretty darn good. Other games should do alot better than Crysis in terms of fps.
This card is quite powerful considering it only takes a 350watt power supply to run it. I will also note that I overclock the card memory and the card’s overall processing speed. I also turn my computer’s power settings to High Performance in the control panel under power settings. This increased my fps by a modest amount.
This is a great card for a single slot computer, it can play most games at a pretty good quality, if aliasing in games annoys you then that will be the only problem, because anything over 2x anti-aliasing at 1080p will drop your frame rate a large amount, but of course it depends on the game and settings you use. In most cases, you will have to turn down the resolution if you want over 2XAA while keeping decent framerate.
In conclusion, I will say that most games should be able to be played at 1080p w/ 2xAA, and also be played at 720p with 4xAA, and turning off the AA will give you a nice fps boost. (Keep in mind that to have anti-aliasing you may have to turn down some other settings, but this depends on the game, because L4D you can max every setting out and still have 2xAA at 60fps, but Crysis is a different story because it’s so graphic intensive) I will also say that 2xAA hardly taxes your framerate on most games, it’s just when you go into 4xAA at higher resolutions, that you sometimes start seeing issues with framerates. It also helps alot if your monitor isn’t a real high resolution monitor. My problem is my monitor is a bit high resolution for some of my games, so I have to turn down the resolution sometimes for certain games, and that causes some aliasing to occur in the process. Anyway, this card is pretty good overall, and I’d recommended it if you have a low power supply in your computer, or just a single slot for a video card.
